In addition to meeting immediate customer needs, Lixo's data science team works on cutting-edge R&D projects. To fuel their thoughts and ideas, they have created the Lixo Journal Club, a working group dedicated to studying the latest and most relevant academic advances and publications on machine learning, computer vision and their application to waste management and recovery*.
What is the Lixo Journal Club?
The concept is very simple! Once every two weeks, a team member presents a recently published article that he or she considers useful for the team. Topics can range from active learning and semantic segmentation to semi-supervised learning and transformers, as long as they help the team broaden its perspectives and maintain its capacity for innovation.
What has he achieved so far?
Since its inception, the Journal Club has studied some twenty research articles, highlighting their strengths and limitations, to build up a precise, up-to-date vision of the state of the art.
Why is this important?
The work of this task force has led to the accumulation of an incredible amount of knowledge. But none of this would have been possible without the free and open publication of cutting-edge academic resources.
Lixo has therefore decided to return the favor and share its knowledge publicly, so that as many data scientists as possible in the circular economy sector can benefit from it.
We will therefore publish frequent blog posts on the results of the Journal Club, following a clear structure:
- general background to the article
- why we chose it
- what it brings to the field
- possible limits
- further reading recommendations
We'll be publishing in both English and French to ensure the widest possible reach; don't hesitate to share!
